The last week has been rather uneventful. I have continued to write the poems for
my new book, and life has been quite calm. So I am going to answer a few questions I have been asked.
Have you ever gotten writer's block?
This is an easy yes…. Sometimes it lasts a few hours and I can push through, but other times it is harder. It has not been much of a problem for me lately as I have a list of projects I am working on. If one is not inspiring me I move on to a different one.
Did you ever consider writing under a pseudonym?
I considered it for a while before I published my first book, but nothing felt right. In the end I decided to just use my name, but I would consider a pseudonym if I wanted to publish a different type of novel.
What was the best money you ever spent as a writer?
Easy. Author's ad school (previously Amazon Ad school). Bryan Cohen and his ad squad has taught me so much about amazon and the advertising world that I would have given up without their help.
Do you want each book to stand on its own, or are you trying to build a body of work with connections between each book?
When I started, I wrote a single book. I never intended to publish or have anyone read it as it was a bedtime story for my son. As time passed the main character came alive and I saw more of her story. While my son was no longer interested, I still felt the need to put the story into words. When Cassy’s story came to a natural end, I decided to delve deeper into some of the other characters and wrote three short stories. I thought that was the end.
I switched to my second collection, intending it to be a separate series entirely, but my characters had different ideas.
Once my characters become ‘real’ to me they take on a life of their own and can often dictate the way the story flows. My vampires wanted to be part of Cassy’s world and they have opened the doorway for new characters and new books.
I never intended to have all my books connected, but it seems to be the way my characters want things. Who am I to argue?
Until next time...
Grab a book. Snuggle up and read. A good story can take you anywhere.
Just believe.
