Why do I write?

Someone asked me a few days ago why do I write young adult and children's books?
There is a very simple answer. I write for my children.
As some of you will know my first novel, Cassy, started out as a bed time story for my eldest son. Each night he would curl up in bed and ask for a story. As we lived in Greece at the time, it was difficult to find English children's books, so I started making up my own. My son would choose the characters and lead me through a simple plot that I would expand into a story. When we started to create 'Cassy', he became so involved in her life that he wanted more of her story the next night. I soon needed to keep notes on the story so I could pick it up again the next evening. These became the notes I followed when I began to write the book.
The story has not changed much from the original, even after all the editing and rewrites. I believed (and still believe) it is important to keep the basic story line the same, as this is the story that started my sons love of reading.
If you have any questions about my books or writing in general, feel free to send me an email.
